Answer:

No, the current Texas Instruments USB to serial adapter built in to the Samsung NC241 is not compatible with View 5.0, or with the latest TI drivers.

For View 5.0 an older legacy driver must be used. This driver must be obtained directly from Samsung.

Once you have the correct driver, uninstall the current TI drivers and restart the VM. The TUSB3410 should appear in Device Manager as an unknown device.

Manually install the legacy driver, as described below:

  1. Open Device Manager. Under the View menu select "Devices by Connection";
  2. Expand the "VMware View Virtual USB Host Controller" tree, and find the unknown COM device;
  3. Right-click on the unknown COM device and choose "Update Driver Software";
  4. Manually select the folder including the TI legacy drivers;
  5. After the driver is installed, a UMP serial device should appear under the TUSB3410 device;
  6. Right-click it and again update the driver software, manually selecting the same folder as in step 4;

The device should now work.

For View 5.1 and up,  use the latest TI drivers for the adapter.
